The AJ Bradnam Tribute Fund
The fund was established in honour of AJ Bradnam, son of Kathi
Power, a 20 year member of the St. Catharines Roadrunners and
Walkers. AJ contracted a virus which was destroying his heart
and a week before his 7th birthday; he and his parents were
told he would need a heart transplant. Fortunately 7 months
later on May 12th, 1985 AJ received a new heart. Sadly AJ passed
away unexpectedly on January 8th, 2006 at the age of 18.
AJ participated in several 5K races before turning his attention
to mountain biking. He raced in the Squeezer, a local 30k mountain
bike race. He lived life to the fullest, never letting his transplant
be a reason for non-participation. AJ was a true advocate for
Organ Donation and Transplantation and attended many functions
to tell of his experiences and remind people to please think
about signing their organ donation cards.
The purpose of the fund is to help support the Heart Transplant
Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children. Funds can be used to
help patients and their families attend the Transplant Games,
help cover the cost of team clothing, special equipment or any
other request that comes from the transplant unit.
