Sept 4:  Our last Holiday Bike Ride for the season was held today and it was a great success in rather warm weather!  We had an A and B group ride finishing at Blackburn Brew House, Niagara Falls, and an impressive turn out!  A rode about 32km and B did about 18km.  Thanks to Kathy and Peter for planning the routes and also to Blackburn for opening the bar and kitchen just for our event!

On Saturday we had four athletes performing at the Subaru Guelph Lake II Triathlon/Duathlon.  Don Stoakley did the Sprint Duathlon, Emily Vancise tackled the Sprint Triathlon and Tony Pisano and Christine mastered the "Try-a-Tri".

There were also a couple of coffee runners at the Glenridge Naturalization site.  See the photos below. (In random order!)

Aug 27:  Yesterday we held our Annual General Meeting and summer barbecue in Burgoyne Woods.  There was a great turnout and a very enjoyable gathering and social time.  Thanks to Kathy Illich, Lisa Galloway and the Social Committee, and also to Trevor and Rose for the pig roast they provided.
Before the meeting, President Tony Pisano presented a cheque for $11,100 to Janet Davey, President of the Bruce Trail Club. This large donation came from our Niagara Ultra event in June.  The Ultra has now raised a total of $114,696 for the Bruce Trail Club, which has enabled it to maintain and acquire land on which the trail runs.  This remarkable donation would not have been possible without the consistent hard work and dedication of race Director Henri Ragetlie and his wife Diane, and of course all the participants and volunteers.
One of the highlights of each AGM is the announcement of the recipient of the President's award, which is given to a club member who has made a notable contribution to the club in many areas over the previous year.  We were delighted to learn that this year's winner is Don Stoakley!

Aug 23:
Tonight, before our regular Wednesday run/walk, we presented a cheque for $4,770 to the Niagara Rankin Cancer run. The funds were raised from our 2023 12 Mile Creek half marathon and 7k held in June.

Club members with the "big cheque"! Thanks to Cat's Caboose for accommodating us every Wednesday!

Aug 19:  This afternoon we had our fourth "Patio Run" from Counterpart Brewery in Niagara Falls.
On a perfect afternoon for running, we made our way along a short section of the Niagara Parkway trail, then returned to the Brewery for food and refreshments. It was great to see a large turnout of runners and friends!  We will have one more patio run in September to finish the season.

Aug 17:  Please see  News and photos  for a report and a photo from the Moonlight Run in Williamsville yesterday. Also on this page is the latest list of social events.

August 7:  Big thanks to Dorothy for organizing our Civic Holiday holiday bike ride from Ironwood Cider House in NOTL.

July 30:  We enjoyed a fantastic "Guess your time" run yesterday, followed by a pot luck supper, and social time with a live band, camp fire and a 50/50 draw!  The rain stopped just in time for this event. The club extends a HUGE thank you to Lisa and Stuart Galloway for providing the venue for this great midsummer social event!  The top three closest guesses for the 4.5 km course were Cesar Valladares, TWO seconds out, Carla Royer, eight seconds out and Brenda Kennedy, nine seconds out. The photos below are mostly "action shots".  There are a few more on News and Photos
July 2:  Thanks to those involved in organizing the Canada Day bike ride and pig roast in the park, especially Kathy and Trevor!

We held a special event on Sunday, April 23rd.  See details below.  The date for the fall 2023 Head for the Hills is Saturday, October 14, at White Meadows farm.

On Sunday, April 23rd, we held a special trail running event from the Woodend Conservation Area.   The Trail Apes (see above) took part in the RLC Virtual Hekkla in support of the Robert Carreau Memorial Fund. This fund was created in memory of SCRRW member Jessica Carreau’s  brother, who was killed by a drunk driver when out for a morning run in November 2020. At the time, he was Head of School at Rosseau Lake College and a tradition of theirs was to run this Hekkla every Spring. It was Rob’s favourite event.
Our club raised several hundred dollars for the fund. We had a great turnout of runners and a few cyclists, who supported the Hekkla with an 18 km run or a 28 km bike ride.  A few others did the Hekklette, which is a 5 km run.

Here it is!  There is now a printable club membership application form for those people who prefer to pay their membership by cash or cheque.  You just need to bring the completed form to one of our regular runs/walks and give it to a Board member, who will ensure your membership is processed.

Here is the link for 2023 club membership.   The annual fee is still only $30!
